What Are Curable Pre-Existing Conditions?
Not all pre-existing conditions are created equal. Some can be fully cured, and we believe your pet deserves coverage after recovery.

A curable pre-existing condition is a short-term illness or injury your pet had before you purchased the policy, but which can be fully resolved with treatment and has not shown any symptoms or required treatment for at least 12 consecutive months. Once that 12-month symptom- and treatment-free period has passed, we will consider the condition covered again β just like any new condition.
- Non-chronic and non-degenerative in nature
- Resolves completely with medical or surgical treatment
- No ongoing clinical signs or required maintenance
- 12 months with no symptoms or treatment
What makes a condition "curable"?
What We Cover vs. What We Don't
Some conditions can be fully cured, while others are chronic or lifelong. Here's how we determine coverage.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Must be acute and fully resolved.
Ear Infection (Otitis)
Single episode with no recurrence.
Vomiting/Diarrhea (isolated)
If not related to chronic conditions.
Kennel Cough
Fully recovered with no chronic issues.
Minor Soft Tissue Injury
Healed with no long-term effects.
Diabetes or Hyperthyroidism
Chronic systemic illness requiring ongoing care.
Hip Dysplasia
Structural/congenital condition.
Intervertebral Disc Disease
Progressive degenerative condition.
Allergies or Dermatitis
Typically lifelong and recurring.
Any Cancer or Tumors
Even if in remission.
How It Works
Our process is simple and designed with your pet's health in mind
Required Documentation
To remove a curable pre-existing condition from exclusion, we'll need:
- Recent medical records
- History from previous 12-18 months
- Relevant diagnostic results
